If the Flat Webbing Sling is badly damaged, first the outer casing is broken and the load bearing core is exposed indicating that the Sling has been damaged; it has been shown in repeated tests that internal damage is not an indication that there is no visible damage to the outer casing. It is possible, also, that Flat Lifting Slings will be visible through the casing if the inner load-carrying tow has broken. Small cuts on the casing can be protected with loose tape to prevent further splitting, but careful inspection must be done to determine if there is any internal damage before continuing to use. Large cuts on the Flat Woven Webbing Sling must be inspected by the manufacturer for repair and continued use.
